Ranger Aerospace Subsidiary A.S.I.G. is Named World’s Best Airlines Fueler

April 28, 1999

Greenville, SC, April 28, 1999 – Ranger Aerospace Corporation announced today that its subsidiary, Aircraft Service International Group (ASIG) was named the World’s Best Aviation Fueler as part of an independent survey conducted by the World Jet Fuel Report. In addition to being the overall best, ASIG placed first for Quality of Service, Best Trained Staff, and for Most Improved Operator. Airlines and oil companies recognize the World Jet Fuel Report as an authoritative expert publication in the commercial airlines industry. ASIG scored on overall points more than 25% ahead of the next best rated survey competitor, Signature Flight Support (see Chart on page 2 of this release). 41 major airlines were surveyed, comprising amongst them over 35 billion gallons per year of jet fuel consumption, or roughly 60% of the total worldwide annual demand from all airlines combined. Fuel is one of the largest cost components in any airline’s operations, so its delivery and management are critical. ASIG is the largest independently owned airline fueler in North America and Europe. 46.3% of the survey votes were cast by North American carriers, and 28.6% by European carriers; the balance from Asia and Latin America.

Steve Townes, President, CEO and Founder of Ranger Aerospace said, “We are pleased to see our centerpiece company recognized in this way. The Ranger business philosophy is to acquire and help expand high quality, industry leading aviation companies. Our overall strategy of heavily re-investing in quality programs, workforce initiatives, capital equipment, and operational improvements is paying off.” Some respondents noted significant improvements at ASIG since Ranger Aerospace acquired the aviation services company in early 1998. The publication also cites Ranger’s recent aggressive acquisition and joint venture efforts, most notably its takeover attempt of a large publicly traded competitor, and several successful new joint ventures in Europe.

Ranger is an aerospace management and investment company, which owns and operates large-scale commercial aviation services businesses, a logistics/leasing entity, and joint ventures. Ranger is the sole shareholder of ASIG and ASIG’s seven subsidiaries or affiliates. Ranger, although privately held, is backed with large institutional equity shareholders, venture capital, and institutional bondholders, plus significant ownership by management. Ranger is investing and acquiring for marketplace consolidation in selected aviation services niches.

ASIG has operated for over 50 years as one of the largest independent airfield services companies in the world. ASIG has substantial ground handling and fueling operations in 41 business units in North America and Europe. ASIG employs over 3,300 aviation service professionals.
